Opens January 1, 2017
Second Avenue Subway
The first phase of the Second Avenue Subway opens January 1, 2017. These new stations have been may decades in the making, from its first proposal in the early part of the 20th century, through limited construction in the 1970s, and finally seen to completion of the first 3 stations in 2017. The first 3 stations are an extension of the Q line on 72nd, 86th, and 96th streets and 2nd avenue, which continue onto existing tracks on 63rd and 3rd avenue. Additional phases of construction are expected in the future, which will ultimately extend the line from 125th street through lower Manhattan. Congratulations and thank you to all who were a part of the planning and construction of the line.
